Tchaikovsky's "Swan Lake" is one of the most popular full-length ballets and is full of wonderful music, from which the composer has put together a brilliant orchestral suite. Tchaikovsky was not only a great melodist, but also a master of noble dance music and colourful, dazzling instrumentation. Gérard Korsten, once concertmaster of the Camerata, now an internationally successful orchestra leader, returns to the podium of the Mozarteumorchester Salzburg after several years. And with Benjamin Schmid, "the" Salzburg world-class violinist can be experienced, with a work for whose recording he received the German Record Prize. Ermanno Wolf-Ferrari, German-Italian, successful composer of mostly comic operas, wrote an oppressive violin concerto for a young violinist in the dark times of the Second World War - pure romanticism, deeply felt, a great declaration of love for a young woman and her instrument. Mieczysław Weinberg, finally established as one of the greats of the 20th century, is represented with his classicistic Sinfonietta No. 1.
Unfortunately, the introductory lectures before our subscription concerts cannot take place this season due to corona-related conditions.
