Norwegian violinist Vilde Frang is undoubtedly one of the most celebrated violinists of our time, a strong personality with charisma and perfect virtuosity. This time she performs Robert Schumann's Violin Concerto, one of his last works, published long after the composer's death and filled with resounding poetry and visionary harmony. Maestro Alain Altinoglu and the Frankfurt Radio Symphony Orchestra are the top-class accompanists in this symphonic score. The second part features Dmitri Shostakovich's response to Stalin's reprimand, the effectively patriotic 5th Symphony. However, a sea of gloom bubbles beneath the surface of this music and the composed bizarre parody of jubilation cannot be ignored. Shostakovich's approach was so ingenious that international success followed him.
