Max Bruch's 100th anniversary of death would have been celebrated in 2020, but then the Brahms contemporary fell into Beethoven's shadow. His first Violin Concerto belongs to the fixed repertoire of all great violinists, but there are more and not less good violin concertos by him, including the melodious "Scottish Fantasy". It was written for Pablo de Sarasate and uses real Scottish folklore in all four movements. Gérard Korsten, once concertmaster of the Camerata, now an internationally successful orchestra leader, returns to the Mozarteumorchester Salzburg after several years. And with Benjamin Schmid "the" Salzburg world-class violinist can be experienced. Mieczysław Weinberg, finally established as one of the greats of the 20th century, is represented with his classicistic Sinfonietta No. 1. Tchaikovsky's "Swan Lake" is one of the most popular ballets, and full of wonderful music, from which the composer has put together a brilliant orchestral suite.
Unfortunately, the introductory lectures before our subscription concerts cannot take place this season due to corona-related conditions.
