‘The Nutcracker’ is one of those full-length ballets for which Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky is considered the grand master. The enchanting fairy tale is also an annual Christmas delight for young and old alike. A selection of the most famous numbers results in an orchestral virtuoso ‘parade of hits’.  Engelbert Humperdinck's marvellously romantic opera ‘Hansel and Gretel’ also belongs to the Christmas season. In between these highly romantic fairytale pieces, star cellist Andreas Brantelid devotes himself to Joseph Haydn's classical cello concerto, which is a delight at any time of year. One of Germany's most traditional orchestras, the Gürzenich-Orchester Köln with its new music director Andrés Orozco-Estrada on the podium, will be performing.
