Dmitri Shostakovich's dramatic Fifth Symphony is one of the monuments of modern classical music and a moving portrait of the times, full of Slavic soul and blazing fire.  The Slovakian Philharmonic Orchestra from Bratislava and its Russian chief conductor Daniel Raiskin, who is also acclaimed as a violist, stand for this. The oeuvre of the great Czech composer Antonín Dvořák is one of the highlights of the Romantic period. His sparkling Carnival Overture delights at the beginning. Martin Fröst, the exceptional Swedish clarinettist, performs what is probably the most ingenious and touching of all clarinet concertos before the interval. With this work, Wolfgang Amadé Mozart not only created a piece of the highest classical perfection, but also opened the gates to Romanticism wide open.
