Modest Mussorgsky, the most brilliant composer from the circle of the "Russian Five", created one of the most important piano cycles of the Romantic period with his Pictures at an Exhibition based on paintings by a friend - provided with astonishing tonal visions of modernity. The latter inspired Maurice Ravel, the French master of luminous orchestral colors, to create a grandiose orchestration that is more than just that. This exceptional work is preceded by a fairy-tale treasure by the "wunderkind" Erich Wolfgang Korngold and the Sinfonia concertante by the old Joseph Haydn, who dedicated this original piece anno 1792 to a solo quartet of rare composition. For violin, violoncello, oboe and bassoon performed here in an elegant and inspired manner with an orchestra of chamber-musical transparency, which, to the composer's delight, was able to be large in London. The concert will feature the Wiener Symphoniker, once a year regulars in Salzburg. They have a new principal conductor who is no longer an unknown quantity in Salzburg, but is one of the most celebrated maestri of our time: Andrés Orozco-Estrada, a native of Colombia, musically socialized in Vienna.
