The founder of Czech national music, Bedřich Smetana, heard his cycle "Má Vlast" (My Fatherland), which ranks among the highlights of the genre of symphonic poetry, only within himself; he was struck by Beethoven's fate of deafness from 1874 on. At the beginning of the sequence of sounding pictures from the history and nature of Bohemia stands "Vyšehrad", the old royal castle on the steep cliff near Prague - next to it the "Moldau", which belongs to the real classical hits, flows mightily past at the end of this wondrous tale of the life of a river. Rarer to hear is the heroic legend of the riding and loving Amazon princess "Šárka". After that, the spring-like splendor of sound in "Bohemia's Grove and Meadow" delights, before the description of the heroic city of the Hussites, "Tábor", and the "holy" mountain "Blanik", national apotheoses powerfully and hymnally conclude the impressive work. This masterpiece of romantic program music will be performed by the Deutsche Radio Philharmonie Saarbrücken Kaiserslautern under the baton of its Finnish-born chief conductor Pietari Inkinen, who will be the next musical director of Wagner's "Ring des Nibelungen" in Bayreuth.
