The Wiener Akademie Orchestra was founded in 1985 with two Bach concerts at the Vienna Musikverein. Since then, Bach has been a central composer for the original sound orchestra and its chief conductor Martin Haselböck, both in his cycle in the Golden Hall of the Vienna Musikverein and on numerous tours throughout Europe and overseas. For example, Martin Haselböck has regularly performed Bach's St. Matthew Passion on Palm Sunday in Los Angeles for many years.
In his concert on March 29, 2025 at the Mozarteum, Martin Haselböck will interpret the St. John Passion in the version from 1725, 300 years after its creation and in the original instrumentation used by Bach himself with 8 exquisite solo singers and orchestra. In addition to the performance, an international symposium on the St. John Passion will take place on the day of the concert at 3 pm at Schloss Leopoldskron, which is accessible free of charge with the concert ticket.
