As part of the Music Festival Kulturtage, it has become a tradition to present sacred music in cooperation with the Dommusik in Salzburg's largest house of worship. Under the direction of cathedral conductor Andrea Fournier, this year's cathedral concert will feature the Lobgesang by Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy. The symphonic cantata for solos, choir, orchestra and organ from 1840 consists of two parts: a symphonic one, with three instrumental movements, and then a cantata with orchestra, solos and choir. The triumph of light over darkness is the central statement of the work: “The night has passed, but the day has come. So let us lay aside the works of darkness and put on the weapons of light.”
