It used to be called a "symphony of faith", a "Catholic", even "Holy Scripture". Bruckner himself, on the other hand, said that his "Fifth" was his "Fantastic" and his "contrapuntal masterpiece". In fact, the enormous work is a sounding architecture, a cathedral in tones. The composer never heard this symphony, which was too much for the orchestras of his time, in its entirety. The premiere in Graz, which he was unable to attend, took place in an abridged version. This time, of course, it can be heard in its original, complete form by the Deutsche Radiophilharmonie, which is often celebrated in the Romantic repertoire and has its home base in Saarbrücken and Kaiserslautern. The orchestra's current, internationally successful chief conductor, the Finn Pietari Inkinen, will be conducting.
