Russian star trumpeter Sergei Nakariakov performs one of the most famous concertos for his instrument as far as 20th century literature is concerned. It was written by the Armenian composer Alexander Arutjunjan, and is full of folkloristic melody, sparkling rhythms and brilliantly formulated virtuosity. Truly a firework of trumpet art. After the interval, the NDR Radiophilharmonie, led by British conductor Andrew Manze, performs Anton Bruckner's 8th Symphony.
