The director, actor, puppeteer and puppet builder Nikolaus Habjan, who is known beyond Austria's borders, can be experienced at the Salzburger Kulturtage 2021 with one of his other great talents, artistic whistling. Accompanied by pianist Ines Schüttengruber, the multi-talented artist will whistle his way through the most popular arias from three centuries of opera and operetta history. Habjan only learned to whistle at the age of 10. Since then he has been able to perfect the art. With razor-sharp intonation and instrumental precision, the Graz native builds a bridge to his audience, whether they are opera-savvy or opera novices. With the program "Heiße Luft" ("Hot Air"), the Nestroyprize winner whistles popular opera numbers and thus takes up the now almost forgotten tradition of artificial whistling. In the 19th century, the art of whistling enjoyed great popularity among the Austrian upper classes. Probably the most popular art whistler in Vienna at that time appeared under the name of Hans Tranquillini, called Baron Jean and in civil life Fiaker, with the brothers Josef and Johann Schrammel in the Viennese vaudevilles, cabarets and folk theaters. With his Viennese charm, Nikolaus Habjan leads through the evening in a highly entertaining way and revives the art form for the Salzburg audience in a fascinating way.
