Robert Schumann was inspired in his 3rd symphony by the idyllic landscape and the gothic cathedrals on the Rhine. Of course, he did not write illustrative music, but one in which the poetry and history of a region become a reflection of the human condition. The concert opens with a rare overture by the great English late romantic composer Edward Elgar - "In the South", composed in Italy and full of unforgettable, sensual impressions.
The French master of the oboe, François Leleux, has long since become a master of the baton, which he will be wielding this time at the podium of the Mozarteumorchester Salzburg, when the Czech master of the horn, Radek Baborák, proves his brilliance after the virtuosically set notes of the Londoner Gordon Jacob, who is far too little noticed in this country. Baborák was already solo hornist of the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra at the age of 18, later a colleague of Leleux in Munich and finally a decade with the "Berliners".

Unfortunately, the introductory lectures before our subscription concerts cannot take place this season due to corona-related conditions.
