The central work in these concerts by the great Hungarian conductor Iván Fischer and his celebrated Budapest orchestra is a symphony by the style-defining Wagner conductor Gustav Mahler, long missed in Salzburg outside the festival: the monumental "Seventh" with its ambiguous images of nature, its strong contrasts, its enchanting night music and its hymnic finale. "Wagner and the consequences" is the secret motto of this evening. The people of Budapest open the evening with the dramatic prelude to the third act of "Lohengrin", followed by a song wreath by the passionate Wagnerian Hugo Wolf, beguiling songs for mezzo-soprano and orchestra, including the well-known ballad of the "Pied Piper". With a world star from Austria, Elisabeth Kulman, who makes herself very rare on stage, but is at home on all important concert stages and undoubtedly has one of the most beautiful voices of the present day.

Unfortunately, the introductory lectures before our subscription concerts cannot take place this season due to corona-related conditions.
