Three pieces from the late Romantic period with the brilliant Bergen Philharmonic and one of the most important conductors of our time, the British Sir Mark Elder. In the grand finale of this concert evening, this "elder statesman" among the maestri will take on the sonorous and melodiously rich 3rd Symphony by Sergei Rachmaninov, who was far more than just a famous pianist. Camilla Nylund, soprano world star from Finland with a strong connection to her place of study, Salzburg, will perform the evening euphony of Strauss' "Four Last Songs". The 3rd Symphony by Jean Sibelius, on the other hand, is heard less frequently. It is a masterful, original and emphatically rhythmic excursion into neoclassicism by the great Finn, yet unmistakable in its folkloristic background.
