The Museum

Our exhibition features a diverse display of documents and objects related to Georg Trakl’s life, work, and legacy, a film portrait of the poet, and a room with original furniture and household items that offer a glimpse into the Trakls’ daily family life in Salzburg during the Belle Époque.

Among the highlights of our collection—in addition to numerous letters and manuscripts by Trakl—are such diverse items as Trakl’s pocket watch, the family’s coffee maker, an issue of La Famille Fenouillard, one of the first comic books used to teach children French, Trakl’s inscribed copy of Madame Bovary for his sister Grete, the poet’s eerie self-portrait, and works by famous artists such as Hans Fronius and Alfred Kubin based on selected poems. Among the exhibition’s most special treasures is Georg Trakl’s last-discovered poem, Hölderlin, whose manuscript, jotted down in a book, is on display.

A multimedia station provides access to prominent interpretations of Trakl’s work in music, visual art, and film.

Amid the hustle and bustle of the Old Town, the house’s serene atmosphere invites visitors to view the objects undisturbed and to study Georg Trakl’s texts.

Within the museum’s premises, we offer themed tours and workshops with a variety of focal points. For example, the tour “The Beautiful City” explores the relationship between Georg Trakl and Salzburg. For school classes, student groups, and continuing education programs in literary pedagogy, we develop customized literary education programs and reading workshops.

Visitors can purchase souvenirs, publications from the Research and Memorial Center, postcards, CDs, and more at the museum.
