Benjamin Britten, England's greatest composer of the 20th century, was not only a great composer, but also a fabulous pianist and conductor with a special fondness for the Viennese Classical period. Wolfgang Amadé Mozart was one of his musical gods, and creatively processed classical forms and expressive worlds can be found again and again in his own music. So it is natural to associate his music with Mozart. The Belgian National Orchestra will be conducted by the internationally successful German maestro Constantin Trinks, and the renowned duo Silver-Garburg will perform Mozart's sensitive Concerto for 2 Pianos. Britten's delicious lunchtime and evening entertainments also reference a classic, bel canto maestro Gioachino Rossini. The pieces, originally written for a film, are based on melodies from the opera "William Tell" and on songs that the gourmand Rossini composed in his old age for his popular soirées in Paris. Our soirée ends with Mozart's last symphony, the truly Olympian one, which a publisher not unjustly dedicated to Jupiter, the father of the gods. Rossini would probably have served exquisite champagne with it.
