On the occasion of the 125th birthday of the great Austrian late Romantic Erich Wolfgang Korngold, who was born in Brno, was a child prodigy in Vienna and died in Los Angeles as the inventor of symphonic film music, his sonorous, melodious and virtuosic violin concerto, composed during his emigration to the USA, will be performed. The internationally acclaimed Slovak violinist Milan Pala will thus introduce himself in the concert of the Filharmonie Brno at the Großes Festspielhaus. The framework of this concert will be two significant and stirring works by Czech composers. Antonín Dvořák, one of the grand masters of Romanticism, traces the agonies of Othello's soul in his concert overture. The Moravian Leoš Janáček, who had his center of life in Brno and is one of the "classics of modernism," devotes himself to the seething passions of Russian heroes in his fascinatingly dramatic tone poem "Taras Bulba." In addition, there is the colorful fantasy on an unforgettable theme by the English Renaissance master Thomas Tallis. It was penned by his compatriot Ralph Vaughan Williams, one of the greats of the 20th century and still underrated in this country. Maestro Dennis Russell Davies will be at the podium for this concert evening, which is as varied as it is complex.
